Keep Believing to See the Goodness of God

Uncategorized Oct 07, 2022

Sometimes, it is painfully difficult to look for the goodness of God, to believe we will see His goodness in our midst, in our life situation, in the season of pain, sorrow, confusion or the journey through the dry and dark wilderness.  Our soul may be full of the drink of fear, despair, or anger.  We may not even want to look for the goodness of God…  we’ve lost the “want to”.

Why should we look for the goodness of God?  Because He is intrinsically, wholly, purely GOOD and all that goodness is.  If we are His own beloved child, we have this promise that He will never leave us or forsake us.  Which means His pure, loving goodness will never leave us and His goodness is a transforming power.

King David knew this when he cried out that even in the uttermost part of the sea or in the darkest night, “Even there Your hand shall lead me and Your right hand shall hold me.”  (Psalm 139:10)

Looking for God’s goodness in our midst of today may require us to look back and remember/see all the goodness and unfailing love that has pursued us and followed us all our lives.  This will assure our hearts that we will see God’s goodness again and that it is pursuing us even now!  Though we can’t see it now.

Looking for the goodness of God creates a grateful and humble heart, and a grateful and humble heart is good soil for miracles to grow in!

Believing we will see the goodness of the Lord in our lives creates hope, joy and expectation.  Looking for His goodness in our midst creates strength out of weakness, joy out of sorrow, and perseverance… our flickering candle of faith grows stronger, deeper.

The prophet Isaiah said it well when He was encouraging the children of Israel to trust in God by exclaiming “For great is the Holy One in your midst” (Isaiah 12:6).  Everything about Him is great, including His love, mercy and goodness.  So great that the Psalmist says (Psalm 145:3) His greatness is unsearchable!  It is unending with no limits!  Let me say again…  He has promised to those who trust in Him that He (all this unsearchable greatness of His goodness) will never leave us or forsake us.

It is truly an exercise of faith to look for, seek to find and believe we will see His goodness in the midst of all things, situations, and seasons of our lives.  But we will see.  Hold On.  God does not fail the one who trusts in Him.  In due time, our eyes will begin to focus, and we will see His goodness weaving through all things, working all things for the good.

His goodness will be like a light piercing through the darkness and it’s healing rays touching every intimate detail of our lives and situations.  Just like flowers respond to sunlight, so our souls begin to respond with hope to the light of His goodness that is touching us.

His goodness shows itself in so many varied ways…  maybe an unexpected smile from a stranger, a random flower blooming along our path, a hummingbird flying around us, an encouraging word we read or hear, a needed hug from a loved one, a beautiful sunset…  we just have to have the eyes of our hearts opened to begin to see.

The goodness of God is an expression of and reminder of His unending love.  Every expression and act of His goodness is born of His love and are like His arms wrapping themselves around us.  King David, again, describes this love and goodness, this presence of God in every moment of His life, no matter what situation he found himself in --  “You have hedged me behind and before, And laid Your hand upon me.” (Psalm 139:5.)

No matter what life circumstances we find ourselves in today, we can lift up our eyes and look for, hope for and believe for the transformative goodness of God.  His goodness changes all things for the good.

Our miracle is coming.
